Cosmetics brand Colorbar will invest ₹300-400 crore over the next two to three years in its biggest-ever investment programme to overhaul its retail network, accelerate international expansion and strengthen its premium positioning, as it targets ₹1,200 crore in annual domestic revenue within the next three years, founder and managing director Samir Modi said.
The programme will primarily be used to redesign its general trade (GT), modern trade (MT) and exclusive brand outlet (EBO) formats. He said FY27 would be the brand’s highest-investment year.
“We are completely refitting our GT, MT and EBO stores. Our outlets will be among the most advanced in the beauty and skincare space. We are investing in technology and AI, with the focus on providing a holistic experience, from personalised advice to virtual try-ons and more,” Modi said.
The new stores will feature AI-powered virtual beauty advisors, foundation-matching systems that recommend complementary products, personalised engraving, gamified shopping experiences, and in-store customisation, including options for products such as lipsticks, eyeshadows and blushes.
Portfolio Streamlining
The brand is also redesigning its packaging by shifting to custom moulds, increasing the use of aluminium and working towards making all its products 100 % refillable by 2029.
The retail overhaul will be accompanied by a simplification of the company’s product portfolio. Modi said Colorbar is reducing the number of variants and discontinuing overlapping products to optimise shelf space and make product selection easier for consumers. Its exclusive brand outlets will continue to span 350-500 sq ft.
Colorbar is also expanding beyond colour cosmetics into adjacent beauty categories. It plans to launch fragrances later this year, followed by a dedicated men’s grooming range early next year. Modi said the fragrances are being developed specifically for Indian consumers, while the company is also building a body care portfolio as it broadens its offerings alongside its retail and international expansion.
Revenue Growth Trajectory
Modi said Colorbar is targeting annual domestic revenue of ₹1,200 crore within three years. International markets are expected to contribute a larger share of revenue over time, supported by higher pricing and expanding global distribution. In FY25, the company posted revenue of around ₹530 crore.
Modi also plans to take the company public over the next few years but declined to share details on the proposed valuation or the size of the public offering.
Alongside its domestic retail push, the company is expanding its international footprint. Modi said Colorbar has recently entered the US market and is expanding across Russia, while discussions are underway with retailers and partners in the UK, the GCC and Europe. The company is also working with distributors to enter markets such as Sri Lanka, Australia, Malaysia and Indonesia, and has already commenced operations in Nepal and Iraq.
