Albinder Dhindsa, founder and CEO of Blinkit, has been appointed Group Chief Executive Officer of Eternal Limited, the company formerly known as Zomato Ltd. The leadership change will take effect from February 1, 2026, marking a major transition at one of India’s largest consumer internet firms.
Dhindsa’s appointment was approved by the board of Eternal Limited at a meeting held on Tuesday, which is also the day the company announced a net profit of ₹102 crore for the third quarter of FY26. As part of the reshuffle, company founder Deepinder Goyal has resigned from the CEO’s role and will move into the position of Vice Chairman of the board.
In a letter to shareholders, Goyal explained the rationale behind the shift. He said the change would allow him to pursue “high-risk ideas” without the limitations that come with running a publicly listed company, while operational leadership would now rest with Dhindsa.
Dhindsa to oversee Zomato and Blinkit operations
Often referred to as “Albi” within the organisation, Dhindsa will now be responsible for the entire Eternal group, including Zomato’s core food delivery business and Blinkit’s fast-growing quick-commerce operations. His elevation reflects Blinkit’s growing importance within the group and its role as a key driver of growth.
The appointment also signals a strong vote of confidence in Dhindsa, who joined the group following Zomato’s acquisition of Blinkit in 2022 for $568 million. At the time, integration challenges had raised questions about leadership alignment within the merged entity.
From Grofers to quick-commerce leader
Dhindsa has been a familiar name in India’s startup ecosystem for over a decade. He co-founded Blinkit, then known as Grofers, in 2013. In 2021, he spearheaded the company’s shift towards 10-minute grocery delivery, helping it emerge as a leader in the quick-commerce segment.
Before starting his own venture, Dhindsa was part of Zomato, where he served as Head of International Expansion. He is an alumnus of IIT Delhi, where he studied civil engineering, and later attended Columbia Business School.
A turnaround after early post-acquisition hurdles
Dhindsa’s rise to the top role comes after a period of uncertainty. It had emerged earlier that Deepinder Goyal had asked him to step down twice in the weeks following Blinkit’s acquisition, citing difficulties in post-merger integration. Dhindsa, however, remained at the helm and went on to stabilise the business, turning Blinkit into one of Eternal’s most valuable growth engines.
Columbia years and early finance exposure
Dhindsa has previously described his time at Columbia Business School as a formative phase. The programme exposed him to global business perspectives, entrepreneurship, and leadership thinking. During this period, he also worked briefly as an associate at UBS Investment Bank, gaining exposure to financial markets and corporate strategy.
The combination of startup experience, operational execution, and strategic grounding is now expected to shape Dhindsa’s leadership as he takes charge of Eternal Limited at a time when competition in food delivery and quick commerce continues to intensify.
