Statistics Canada has started hiring for approximately 32,000 census jobs across Canada. To be considered for a job, you must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, or possess a valid work permit and residing in Canada and have a Canadian home address. The employment period runs from May 2026 to July 2026, depending on the position and location.

Further, you must have reached the age of majority in your current province or territory of residence. Provinces where the age of majority is 18 include Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Quebec and Saskatchewan, while provinces and territories where the age of majority is 19 are British Columbia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Northwest Territories, Nova Scotia, Nunavut, and Yukon.

Census Jobs

Census jobs require employees to go door to door to obtain completed questionnaires. Pay is $25.87 per hour for enumerators (non-supervisory positions) and $31.32 per hour for crew leaders (supervisory positions), plus authorized expenses.

The primary responsibility of enumerators is to collect completed census questionnaires from households. The enumerators must be available to work a minimum of 20 hours per week on average, as determined by workload, with the majority of the work completed in the evenings and on weekends

The primary responsibilities of crew leaders are to lead and supervise an assistant and a team of enumerators. They are responsible for all activities related to the collection of completed census questionnaires in their assigned area. Crew leaders must be available for full-time work (40 hours per week), including days, evenings, and weekends.

To be hired, you must complete the initial screening, reference check, interview (crew leaders only) and security screening.
