In a major relief for daily commuters in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has approved infrastructure works worth ₹18,130.55 crore for the upcoming Mumbai Metro Line 5A project.

The decision was taken during a Cabinet Infrastructure Committee meeting held on 23 April at Mantralaya in Mumbai. The new metro corridor is expected to significantly improve connectivity and reduce travel stress for lakhs of people living in fast-growing suburbs.

Mumbai Metro Line 5A: Project details and route

Mumbai Metro Line 5A will span a total length of 34.21 km and feature 19 stations. The corridor will be developed in multiple phases to ensure better connectivity across key suburban regions.

Phase 1 will run from Kasarvadavali to Dahisar Check Naka, followed by Phase 2 from Dahisar Check Naka to Durgadi. 

The extended stretch, known as Line 5A, will further connect Durgadi to Kalyan and Ulhasnagar, creating a seamless transit route across these rapidly growing areas.

The newly expanded Metro Red Line has two stations near the Dahisar Check Naka, which will effectively connect the Kasarvadavali and Durgadi to Andheri once the Mumbai Metro Line 5A project is completed.

Maharashtra CM: 69 Lakh Residents to benefit from Mumbai Metro Line 5A 

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that the project is expected to benefit around 69 lakh people living in Thane, Bhiwandi, Kalyan, and Ulhasnagar. These are densely populated areas where a large number of residents depend on daily travel for work, education, and business.

Mumbai Metro Line 5A: travel time to drop by nearly half

Once operational, Mumbai Metro Line 5A is expected to reduce travel time by 40–50%. This means shorter, more predictable journeys for commuters who currently spend long hours stuck in traffic or crowded trains.

Mumbai Metro Line 5A will improve connectivity across Thane, Bhiwandi, Kalyan, and Ulhasnagar, which are some of the fastest-growing and most densely populated suburbs in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

The new corridor will provide more direct and seamless travel options, reducing dependence on multiple modes of transport for daily commutes. It is also expected to ease pressure on congested roads and overcrowded suburban trains, making travel more efficient and comfortable for passengers.
