The two-wheeler industry recorded a sharp uptick in November, with overall sales rising around 21% year-on-year, extending the post-festive momentum.

Barring Bajaj Auto, all major manufacturers reported strong double-digit growth across domestic and export markets.

Bajaj Auto, however, saw a marginal decline in domestic volumes. Its sales fell 1% to 202,510 units against 203,611 units a year earlier. Despite this, the expansion in the two-wheeler segment outpaced passenger vehicle growth, with PV sales rising 19% in November.

Hero leads in sales volume and growth

Hero MotoCorp retained its leadership position, posting a robust 30 per cent rise in sales to 5,70,520 units from 4,39,777 units in the corresponding period last year. The company said the sustained growth reflected broader improvements in the operating environment.

“Supported by GST benefits, conducive macro-economic landscape, and revival in rural ownership and spending, the two-wheeler market continued to maintain a healthy traction during the month,” Hero said.

Hero Motocorp on its sales performance

“The performance builds on the success of its festive season, supported by the success of its new models such as the Xtreme 125R, GlamourX 125, Destini 110 and Xoom 160, which have received strong customer acceptance,” it added.

Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) and Suzuki Motorcycle India also reported strong numbers, each registering a 23 per cent increase.

HMSI clocked sales of 533,645 units in November, up from 432,888 units in the year-ago month.

Suzuki’s sales rose to 96,360 units from 78,333 units a year earlier.
