Larsen & Toubro has signed a contract for an ultra-mega gas compression project in the Middle East, the engineering conglomerate said in a stock exchange filing. The order, awarded to the company’s Energy Hydrocarbon Onshore business, comes against a letter of award issued earlier this fiscal year.

Under L&T’s internal classification, an ultra-mega order is one valued above Rs 15,000 crore. The company did not disclose the exact contract value or name the client, citing customary practice.

L&T gas compression project: What is included in the EPC contract

The contract covers engineering, procurement and construction of gas compression plants. The work includes gas inlet facilities, gas compression systems, and condensate and produced water handling systems. Propane refrigeration systems and associated utilities are also part of the scope, the filing said.

The plants will be built at new onshore locations. They are designed to process sour gas, in line with the client’s technical standards and project requirements.

L&T’s Power Transmission & Distribution business will build two 230 kV extra-high-voltage substations. These will supply power to the compression facilities.

L&T says Middle East gas project will expand compression capacity

“The contract marks the start of a strategically important project that will add significant gas compression capacity and utility infrastructure. The project draws on our extensive experience in executing large and complex hydrocarbon facilities and reinforces our capability to deliver integrated solutions for challenging sour gas applications,” E S Sathyanarayanan, Senior Vice President and Head of L&T Energy Hydrocarbon Onshore, said.
