Reliance‘s video-on-demand platform JioHotstar on Monday announced an updated subscription model, introducing monthly plans across tiers for the first time and restructuring access to international content. The update is effective January 28, 2026, coming within a year of the platform introducing quarterly plans in early 2025. It had only annual plans before that.
Rs 79 (mobile-only), Rs 149 (super) and Rs 299 (premium) are the new monthly plans sitting alongside quarterly and annual subscription options in three tiers.
JioHotstar on the move
While JioHotstar said that the move would allow for greater flexibility in subscription, it has raised the price of annual plans for super and premium users by 22% and 47% each. Super and premium users earlier paid Rs 899 and Rs 1,499, which has now gone up to Rs 1,099 and Rs 2,199 each.
“Monthly plans are being introduced specifically to make access to JioHotstar that much easier for both individuals looking to stream on their smartphones, and also families looking for high-quality premium entertainment on their Connected TV at home,” the platform said, adding that large-screen consumption reported an explosive growth in the last 11 months since launch.
Mobile-only plans
The mobile-only plans will range from Rs 79 to Rs 499 for a single mobile device at a time excluding Hollywood content. For access to Hollywood content, mobile-only users will have to pay Rs 49 to Rs 399 based on the tenure of their subscription. For the other two tiers, Hollywood entertainment will be included for new subscribers. Existing subscribers can continue their current plans and prices, as long as auto-renewals remain active, JioHotstar said.
Super tier will range between Rs 149 to Rs 1,099 and premium offers will include Rs 299 to Rs 2,199 depending on the timeframe chosen. Further, only premium plans will include an ads-free experience.
Commenting on the update, Sushant Sreeram, Head – SVOD Business & Chief Marketing Officer, JioStar, said, “This update brings choice across subscription needs, while supporting long-term investments in premium storytelling, the best of live sports, and a high-quality streaming experience at scale.”
JioHotstar crossed a billion downloads on Google Play and serves over 450 million monthly active users during the December-ending quarter, almost on par with the IPL quarter. The platform currently hosts over 300,000 hours of content. This includes major sporting IPs, programming from over 100 network channels and an anime hub.
