About the Band
Distinguished for their fusion of Carranga Colombiana, traditional Andean music, with rock, “Los Rolling Ruanas” stands out as a musical entity. “Their journey began with a notable nod from the Rolling Stones, who reposted their cover of “Paint It Black,” originally conceived as a university project. Evolving beyond their initial acclaim, the band now boasts a fresh, jazzy, and unique sound, showcased across four studio albums and performances in Colombia, Latin America, and the United States,” Segundo Secretario EFC, Angelica Maria Patino explained.
How is this different from Cumbia music?
Cumbia music, is a genre deeply rooted in Colombian heritage. Based on the information available in the public domain: while Cumbia mainly comes from the coastal regions of Colombia, considered by its infectious rhythms and danceability, “Los Rolling Ruanas” diverge by infusing traditional Andean elements with a rock twist. Cumbia, known for its lively beats and melodic simplicity, contrasts with the band’s innovative blend of Carranga Colombiana and rock.
“As they embark on their musical journey through India, the band’s fusion resonates as a testament to the diverse musical landscape that Colombia offers, distinct from the rhythmic allure of Cumbia,” said Ambassador Echeverri.
