The Command Hospital of Indian Army’s Western Command (CHWC), based in Chandimandir, has been honoured with the prestigious ‘Best Emerging National Transplant Retrieval Hospital’ award. This award was bestowed by the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation and presented by Anupriya Patel, Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare and Chemicals and Fertilizers, during the 14th Indian Organ Donation Day function in New Delhi. Among nearly 300 hospitals nationwide, CHWC distinguished itself through exceptional organ donation and retrieval practices.

Organ Donation: CHWC’s journey

The CHWC’s journey in organ donation began in the late 2000s, with a dedicated program launched in 2014. Since then, the hospital has successfully conducted 75 organ transplant procedures, marking significant milestones such as harvesting a pancreas from a brain-dead person and retrieving organs from a cardiac-dead individual. These achievements highlight CHWC’s commitment to advancing medical practice within the Armed Forces.

According to officials, the hospital’s dedication and expertise have set a new standard in the field of transplantation, offering new hope to countless patients and their families. This recognition underscores the transformative impact of combining medical excellence with deep compassion for humanity.
