In a bid to increase its market share in the market, Volkswagen India is now planning to bring in a sub-4 metre sedan based on the Polo to take on the rivals like Maruti Swift Dzire, Honda Amaze, Ford Figo Aspire, Tata Zest and Hyundai Xcent. Rumoured to be called the Volkswagen Ameo, the new sub-4 metre sedan will most probably be unveiled on February 2, a day before the Auto Expo starts.
The Volkswagen Ameo/Polo sub-compact sedan will also make its public debut at the Auto Expo 2016. Since it's based on the Polo hatchback, we expect the Volkswagen sub-compact sedan to share its platform, components, engines and features with the former. Expect the same 1.2-litre TSI petrol and 1.5-litre TDI diesel engines to power the upcoming sub-compact sedan from Volkswagen India.
Besides the Volkswagen sub-compact sedan, the German carmaker will also showcase the much-awaited Tiguan premium SUV and new Passat GTE at the Biennial event starting on February 3rd. The Tiguan will be the company's answer to products like Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, Chevrolet Trailblazer, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport and other 7-seater premium SUVs.
The new Passat GTE is a plug-in hybrid version of the premium sedan that features a 1.4-litre TSI engine with an electric motor. Both the engine and electric motor help the vehicle churn out a maximum power output of 215bhp.
