Tata Motors that released the sketch image of its upcoming small hatchback (Codenamed Kite) few days back, has now made it official that it will be called the Tata Zica. Set to make its debut in the first week of December, the Tata Zica will be launched in the first half of January, 2016.
The Tata Zica will be the third all-new product under Tata Motors's HorizoNext umbrella after the Zest sedan and Bolt hatchback. Though there is no official word about the vehicle's positioning in Tata's lineup, the Zica will most probably replace the Tata Indica eV2.
Just like the Bolt and the Zest, the Tata Zica has also been designed jointly by Tata Motors' Coventry, Turin and Pune based design studios. While the front fascia of the Zica hatchback looks identical to the Zest and Bolt with similar ‘humanity line’ flowing into headlights, the rear and side profiles look completely different from any other Tata cars on sale today.
The Tata Zica will be offered with two engine options - a 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.05-litre, 3-cylinder diesel. While the 1.2-litre petrol unit is the same that powers the Bolt and the Zest, the 1.05-litre diesel is an all-new engine that churns out 64bhp and 140Nm. The Zica hatchback is built on Indica's XO platform, and will be manufactured at the company's Sanand, Gujarat-based facility.
