Tata Motors, on Tuesday, introduced a more powerful variant of its popular SUV - the Safari Storme. Based on the top-end VX trim, the new version is available in both 4x2 and 4x4 drive options priced at Rs 13.25 lakh and Rs 14.59 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi) respectively.
While there are no cosmetic changes made to this version, the company has tuned the 2.2-litre engine to deliver more power and torque. Called the VariCOR 400, the Safari Storme Vx's engine develops about 6bhp more power and 80Nm more torque than the regular engine powering other trims. Besides a tuned powertrain, the Tata Safari Storme VX also gets a new 6-speed manual gearbox with a self-adjusting clutch and shift-on-the-fly four-wheel drive system. Other variants retain the same 5-speed manual gearbox.
The engine helps the new variant to touch the 60kmph mark from standstill in 5.7 seconds and 100kmph in 13.8 seconds. The Tata Safari Storme VX also gets Tata Motors' new Harman-developed infotainment system with 6 surround-sound speakers.
