Royal Enfield yesterday introduced a new Squadron Blue colour for its popular cruiser - the Classic 500. The Royal Enfield Classic 500 Squadron Blue colour variant is a tribute to the Indian Air Force by Royal Enfield, says the company. The new colour variant can now be booked at any RE dealerships across the nation.

The Royal Enfield Classic 500 in Squadron Blue colour is available at an on-road price of Rs 1,93,372 in Mumbai, Rs 1,98,649 in Bengaluru, Rs 1,89,350 in Chennai and Rs 1,96,700 in Kolkata.

Rudratej Singh, President, Royal Enfield said, “The Classic 500 Squadron Blue is a tribute to Royal Enfield’s war-time presence and association with the armed forces. We wanted a variant with a genuine armed forces heritage for our customers and for this, Royal Enfield turned to the Indian Air Force for inspiration. We had to be very particular about the colour to create an authenticity and also provide the motorcycle its post-war appeal. This inspiration led us to create the Classic Squadron Blue which is now available at price of Rs 186,688 on-road Delhi”

Royal Enfield's association with armed forced is very old, and it began during the World Wars when the motorcycle was extensively used by the British Army. It was 1952, when Royal Enfield received its first order from the Indian Army for 800 units. The British motorcycle maker started manufacturing its bikes in India from 1955. The Indian Air Force also began using Royal Enfield in the 1950's, and it is mainly used by the Air Force Police.

Since it's just a new colour variant, it will continue to feature the same 499cc, air-cooled engine that is coupled with a 5-speed transmission. This engine is good for 22.7bhp and 41.3Nm.
