Renault Kwid has made its debut in India and now the France-based car major is evaluating options of exporting its latest hatchback to various other countries, a top official said.

"Renault Kwid is a global car. Going forward, it will be getting moved into other countries in different forms. Whether CKD (as a Completely Knocked Down unit), CBU (Completely Built Unit) or anything...", Renault India, Country Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director (MD) Sumit Sawhney told reporters.

Renault global Chairman Carlos Ghosn formally unveiled the car in May 2014 that will be manufactured at its facility at nearby Oragadam, set up as a Joint Venture with Japanese automaker Nissan at an investment of over Rs 5,000 crore.

Stating that Renault Kwid would be suitable for small car markets globally, Sawheny said, "We are working on certain projects like Latin American side, Africa. Because it has to be a small car market."

"We are already working on Latin American and African projects. These are different projects and there are various permutations and combinations. May be three months down the line I may be able to tell you where this car will be exported", he said.

Renault Kwid, which the carmaker claims is the most fuel efficient petrol model in the country with a mileage of 25.17 kmpl, would hit the showrooms next week, he said.

The vehicle is priced between Rs 2.57 lakh and Rs 3.53 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

"There has been phenomenal response for pre-bookings. The car will hit showrooms from October 7", he said.

Renault India currently has about 170 outlets and plans to take it to 205 by December 2015, he said.

Stating that Renault's sales volumes would be driven by its Sports Utility Vehicle 'Duster' and by 'Kwid', he said they planned to garner five per cent market share by 2017.

"We are targeting five per cent market share by 2017. We have enough capacity at our Chennai plant. With three shifts operation we can increase the capacity to 4.80 lakh units. Right now we are operating in two shifts", he said.

On the Multi-Sport Vehicle "Lodgy", he said the company would soon roll out a seven seater variant targeting fleet customers.

Renault currently retails SUV 'Duster', hatchback 'Pulse', premium sedan 'Scala', MPV 'Lodgy' in India.
