Homegrown auto major Mahindra & Mahindra is gearing up to enter the premium motorcycle segment overseas, including Latin America, South East Asia and North Africa, with its newly launched Mojo model.

The company, which launched the 300 cc bike in the domestic market at an introductory price of Rs 1.58 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) for all bookings till this Diwali, expects shipments to international markets to happen by the middle of next year.

"Export is a good opportunity. We are certainly looking at exporting Mojo to markets in Latin America, South East Asia and North Africa," M&M President & Chief Executive (Farm Equipment & Two Wheeler Division) Rajesh Jejurikar told PTI.

He said however that primary focus currently is the domestic market.

"By the middle of next year, we should start the exports," he said when asked about a timeline for start of overseas shipments.

The company is banking on technology derived from the group's Mahindra Racing Moto3 world championship bikes that Mojo uses to make it stand out from competition.

Features such as braking, ride quality and suspension besides co-axial fitting of the engine of Mojo are derived from the racing bikes.

Mahindra Two Wheelers has another motorcycle brand Centuro and scooter model Gusto. All its products are manufactured at its unit in Pithampur, Madhya Pradesh.

It has been expanding global footprint and has presence in 17 countries across South Asia, Africa, Middle East and Latin America. It exports about 3,000 units a month at present.
