Exactly 20 years go, Hyundai Motor India Limited laid the foundation for its factory in India on May 6, 1996. It began operations in September 1998 by commissioning its first integrated car plant outside its home market Korea in Sriperumbudur near Chennai. The investment done on the factory now stands at 3.1 billion USD with vendor investment of 1.5 billion USD.
The Santro was the company's first car in India which was also the first car in its segment to feature an MPFI engine. Other rials were only using carburettor based engines at that point of time.
At the 20th Foundation Day celebration, Hyundai Motor India's Managing Director Young Key Koo announced the company's vision of achieving the market leadership in India and becoming the most trusted and modern premium brand with best products and services. The official also spoke about the company's vision to launch 2 new products every year to reach more customers. More GDSI & digital showrooms, automated workshops, introduction of ‘Experience Hyundai’ programmes for brand & product, sponsorships etc. are in the offing.
