German carmaker BMW will open a specialised sales outlet for M-Series cars in Mumbai this year. This will be a first-of-its-kind showroom by the company in India that will focus only on sales of the high-performance M-Series cars.
“First such store will be in Mumbai and we expect to open soon in other cities depending on the response,” said Philipp von Sahr, president, BMW Group India. Talking to FE after launching the BMW X6 sports activity coupe, he said the company gives lot of importance to the M-Series brand in India. “We will launch three models in next few months under the M-Series segment in India,” Sahr said.
BMW sells M3 sedan, M4 Coupe, M6 Gran Coupe and M5 sedan in India. In next five months, BMW plans to launch X6M and X5M under the M Series. These launches are part of the company's plan to have 15 new models in India in 2015. So far, BMW India has launched five models and the rest will be launched by December, he said.
BMW will showcase all M Series models at the exclusive store, along with accessories and different components. Sahr said the company will open 50 more outlets for the other cars in the next few years including some of the top tier-2 cities such as Coimbatore, Rajkot, Vijayawada and Patna among others.
The company had recently increased installed capacity at the Chennai plant to 14,000 units per annum. It also announced an additional investment of Rs 100 crore on training and enhancement of localisation. Its current localisation level has touched 50% and the company would pass on the benefit to its customers in terms of lowering prices, Sahr added.
