It’s June 2024, and vehicle sales details for May 2024 will roll in today, Big OEMs such as Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Tata Motors, Royal Enfield, Mahindra, Suzuki, TVS, and others will share details today. The battle between Hyundai and Tata Motors is sure to continue for second place, while Maruti Suzuki will continue to dominate the Indian market in terms of car sales, while Hero MotoCorp will lead the two-wheeler segment. So here are all the live sales updates from May 2024.
Auto sales May 2024 highlights: Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Tata Motors, Hero MotoCorp, Bajaj, TVS, Royal Enfield and more
Maruti exported 17,367 units to foreign markets in May this year as compared to 26,477 units exported in May last year. This results in a YoY decline of 34.4%.
Maruti Suzuki has recorded a domestic PV sales of 144,002 units in May 2024. This translates to a marginal 0.2% YoY growth, with 143,708 units sold in May last year.
Maruti Suzuki has recorded a cumulative volume of 174,551 units in May 2024, out of which 146,694 units were sold domestically, 17,367 units exported to overseas markets, and 10,490 units sold to other OEMs.
Kia has announced that its two global models- EV9 and the new Carnival– will be launched in India in the second half of the year. Both models have been spied testing in India on multiple occasions.
For the overseas markets, Seltos contributes the majority with almost 60% of exports from India accounted for by the mid-size SUV. Sonet and Carens follow Seltos with 34% and 7% of the company’s overseas dispatches, respectively.
Kia’s total produced a total of 21,804 units in May this year, out of which 2,304 units were exported to overseas countries. With this, Kia surpassed the 2.5 Lakh export milestone to over 100 countries from its Anantapur facility in Andhra Pradesh.
Kia has revealed that Sonet became the best-selling model for the South Korean carmaker in May this year with a volume of 7,433 units, closely followed by Seltos and Carens with 6,736 unit and 5,316 units, respectively.
Launched in August 2020, Sonet received a mid-cycle facelift in January this year with prices starting at Rs 7.99 lakh to Rs 15.75 lakh (ex-showroom).
Kia India, registered the sale of 19,500 units in May 2024, thus, recording a YoY growth of over 3.9% compared to 18,766 units in the corresponding month of the last year.
TVS registered a sales volume of 10,324 three-wheelers in May 2024. In May last year, this figure stood at 11,314 units.
Electric vehicles (EV) sales grew by 4% YoY, increasing from 17,953 units in May 2023 to 18,674 units in May 2024. TVS currently retails two electric scooters in its lineup – iQube and X.
Scooter sales for TVS registered a YoY growth of 20% with sales increasing from 121,156 units in the month of May 2023 to 145,305 units in May 2024.
TVS sold a total of 173,627 motorcycles in May 2024 increasing from 162,248 units in May 2023, resulting in YoY growth of 7%
Domestic two-wheeler sales of TVS registered growth of 7% with sales increasing from 252,690 units in May 2023 to 271,140 units in May 2024.
Total two-wheeler sakes for TVS in May 2024 stood at 359,590 units as compared to 319,295 units recorded in May 2023. This led to a YoY growth of 13%.
TVS Motor Company recorded a total monthly sales volume of 369,914 units in May 2024, translating into YoY growth of 12%. During May last year, total sales recorded was 330,609 units.
Tarun Garg, COO, HMIL, claims SUVs continue to be a growth driver for HMIL, accounting for more than 67% of domestic sales last month. Although Hyundai is yet to release break of its sales figures for May 2024.
HMIL sold a total of 63,551 units including domestic and export markets, resulting in YoY growth of 6.63%. The South Korean auto giant exported 14,400 units in May this year and 11,000 units in May last year. YoY growth stood at 31%.
Mahindra exported 1872 units of tractors to foreign markets in May 2024, resulting in 85% YoY growth. In May last year, Mahindra exported 1013 units of tractors.
Toyota‘s latest launch in India was the Urban Cruiser Taisor in India earlier this year. A rebadged Maruti Suzuki Fronx, is available in three petrol engine options including- 1.0L Turbo, 1.2L NA, and E-CNG options. It is priced between Rs 7.4 lakh and Rs 13.04 lakh (both ex-showroom).
Toyota has recorded a 35% MoM growth in May. In the previous month, Toyota dispatched 18,700 units across the country,
Mahindra has recorded a 5.4% MoM growth in May 2024. In April this year, the company sold 41,008 PVs in the country.
In May this year, Mahindra launched the new XUV 3XO replacing the old XUV 300. Veejay Nakra, President, Automotive Division, M&M Ltd., claimed Mahindra to recive over 50,000 bookings within the first hour. Deliveries of the XUV 3XO commenced 26 May 2024 onwards.
Mahindra Automotive, a division of Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) has recorded a sale of 43,218 PVs in the domestic market in May 2024. This results in a 31% YoY growth.
