Since the Volkswagen Polo GTI will be brought to India as a completely built up unit (CBU), we expect it to be priced around Rs 20 lakh. The highly-anticipated Volkswagen Polo GTI will make its India debut on February 4, 2016 at the upcoming edition of the Auto Expo. Though the company already has hot-hatch derivatives of the Volkswagen Polo in the mass-segment, GT TSI and GT TDI, this one will target buyers looking for an even more powerful hatchback. "Designed to suit the requirements of automotive enthusiasts, the Polo GTI has earned a reputation world-over, for being among the most powerful, dynamic and thrilling car lines in its league,", said the company in a statement. The Volkswagen Polo GTI will be a 3-door hatchback, and will derive its power from a 1.8-litre, four-cylinder, TSI turbocharged engine. Mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox, this engine churns out a whopping 190bhp and 250Nm. This is the same engine that does duty on the Audi A3 and Skoda Octavia as well. Similar to the global model, the India-bound model's manual version will offer more torque than the automatic model. As against the automatic model's 250Nm at 1250-5300rpm, the manual gearbox will score in at 320Nm at 1450-4200rpm. "Ticking all the boxes of exhilarating performance, power and comfort, the Polo GTI is guaranteed to make heads turn with its striking redesign with instant recognition. Taking cues from Volkswagen's racing pedigree, the GTI comes with a larger, more powerful 1.8 litre TSI turbocharged engine and will be available in manual transmission as well as DSG options.", added the company. Since the Volkswagen Polo GTI will be brought to India as a completely built up unit (CBU), we expect it to be priced around Rs 20 lakh. At this price, the Volkswagen Polo GTI will take on the Abarth.
