The Toyota Innova Crysta has an impressive design with strong shoulder lines. At the front, there’s a dual headlamp unit with projector lights in the upper variants. The Innova Crysta measures 4,735 mm in length, 1,830 mm in width and 1,735 mm in height. The vehicle is equipped with 205/65 section tyres shod on 16-inch alloy wheels for the lower variants and 215/55 section with a 17 inch on the top variants. Suspension setup upfront is a double wishbone with torsion bar and a 4 link with coil spring at the rear. Braking is courtesy ventilated disc at the front and drum at the rear, which is surprising given the price of the vehicle.
The interiors of the Toyota Innova Crysta are significantly better than the Innova. The faux wood combined with an all black theme for the dashboard, leather -wrapped seats and chrome accents add to the premium feel inside the cabin. The touchscreen infotainment has USB, AUX-in, Bluetooth streaming and navigation along with steering mounted audio and phone controls. The touch screen is easy to use even with gloves. The multi-information display also gives out instantaneous mileage, an ECO wallet, ECO score along with the standard fuel consumption, distance to empty and other necessary information.
The Toyota Innova Crysta is powered by three engines, a 2,694 cc petrol, 2,393 cc diesel and a 2,755 cc diesel. Power and torque generated by the petrol powered MPV is 163.7hp at 5,200 rpm and 245Nm at 4,000 rpm, while the smaller diesel unit produces 148hp at 3,400 rpm and 343Nm between 1,400 rpm and 2,800 rpm.The larger unit churns out 171.6hp at 3,400 rpm and an impressive 360Nm from as low as 1,200 rpm right up to 3,400 rpm. The 2.8 litre is naturally more fun to drive but is noisy as well.
The Toyota Innova Crysta has a choice of 6-speed manual and automatic gearbox but only the 2.8 litre engine is offered with the automatic gearbox. The 6-speed manual offers seamless gearshifts but the gear lever throw is quite long. The automatic unit takes some time to shift and the engine spins at higher speeds during the shift, increasing the noise intrusion in the cabin. The manual transmission results in a quieter cabin due to the absence of the above-mentioned problem.
The Toyota Innova Crysta comes with seven airbags namely dual front, driver knee, front side and curtain airbags, ABS, vehicle stability management and hill assist control for the upper variants. The base versions get ABS and dual front as well as driver knee airbag but missed out on the remaining features.
The Innova Crysta, in its petrol powered avatar, has a certified mileage of 9.89 km/l for the manual gearbox option. The diesel variants have a higher figure with a certified fuel efficiency figure of 15.1 km/l for the 2.4 litre version and 14.3 km/l for the 2.8 litre trim, which are respectable numbers considering the weight and size of the Innova Crysta.
