
Skoda India entered the Indian market in November 2001 and is a Czech carmaker owned by the Volkswagen Group. It has a manufacturing facility in Shendra, Aurangabad that has an annual production and assembly capacity of 89,000 vehicles. The carmaker sells the Rapid, Yeti, Octavia and Superb in India. The company was started in December 1895 by Vaclav Laurin and Vaclav Klement and was initially branded as the Laurin & Klement Company. Initially a bicycle manufacturer, they introduced their first car in 1905, the Voiturette A. In India, the company has had issues with maintenance and have lately been trying to improve their image in the same aspect.
