The MG Hector is indeed a looker, no doubt in that and it turns heads wherever it goes. The front end of the vehicle gets sleek LED DRLs while the primary headlamps are fitted lower just like the Tata Harrier. The side profile is also dynamic and busy, all thanks to the strong shoulder line and the blacked out pillars. However, the 17-inch alloy wheels do look a bit undersized but that is due to the generous body proportions.
The cabin of the MG Hector is spacious and plush and is a great place to be in. The dashboard has a three layer design in which the center one has soft touch material. However, the attention catcher is the massive 10.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system that is reminiscent of the new Volvos and Teslas. The unit comes preloaded with multiple apps including Gaana and you do not need to save songs, all thanks to the internet connectivity due to the Airtel sim present on board.
When it comes to the engine and gearbox, you get a 2.0-litre diesel engine that is good for developing 170 hp of power and 350 Nm of torque. Moreover, there is a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol motor that sheds out 143 hp of power and 250 Nm of torque. The diesel engine option is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox while the petrol version gives you an option to choose between a manual gearbox and a dual clutch transmission. Another option is the India’s first 48-volt petrol hybrid.
On the MG Hector SUV, the diesel engine comes mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. On the other hand, the petrol version lets you choose between a manual gearbox and a dual clutch transmission. The manual transmission works fine and the gearshifts are super smooth and precise. The throws are quite smooth along with the decent gearbox pairing.
The MG Hector gets disc brakes all around for a decent stopping power. In terms of features, the SUV packs in a lot of goodies like panoramic sunroof, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), MID, hill assist, cruise control, powered seats and wing mirrors and more. The Hector also gets premium sound system by Infinity.
MG Hector official fuel efficiency figure is 14.16 kmpl with the six speed manual gearbox. On the other hand, the engine returns 16.96 kmpl with the dual clutch automatic. The fuel efficiency of the diesel MG Hector is 17.41 kmpl which is adequate for a vehicle of this segment and size.
