The Mercedes-Benz GLS measures 5,130 mm in length, 2,141 mm in width, 1,850 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 3,075 mm. It is available in six colour options, Magnetite Black, Cavensite Blue, Designo Diamond White Bright, Citrine Brown, Designo Hyacinth Red Metallic and Diamond Silver. Standard features on the exterior of the Mercedes-Benz GLS include LED headlamps with Daytime Running lamps as well as LED tail lamps, 20 inch alloy wheels, panoramic sunroof and roof rails finished in chrome.

The Mercedes-Benz GLS is offered in one petrol and one diesel engine option in India. The 2,967 cc V6 diesel produces 258 hp of power at 3,400 rpm and 620 Nm of torque from 1,600 rpm to 2,400 rpm. The 2,996 cc petrol motor generates 333 hp of power from 5,250 rpm to 6,000 rpm and 480 Nm of torque between 1,600 rpm and 4,000 rpm.
Both engine options are available with a 9G TRONIC 9-speed automatic transmission which has been tuned with each engine for the best balance between performance and mileage. The top speed of the diesel variant is 222 kmph while that of the petrol is 240 kmph. The zero to 100 kmph figure of the petrol trim comes up in 6.6 seconds and in the diesel version is claimed to be achieved in 7.8 seconds.
The Mercedes-Benz GLS is offered with ABS (Anti lock Braking System), traction control, reverse parking sensors with different views for the camera known as PARKTRONIC system, ATTENTION ASSIST and PRE SAFE. All these systems are competitive and segment leading.
Claimed fuel efficiency of the Mercedes-Benz GLS petrol is 12 kmpl while that of the diesel is 11.6 kmpl. Considering the dimensions, weight and features available in the SUV, these figures are acceptable as well as competitive.
