The Maruti Suzuki Ritz is a tall-boy hatchback that has a smart design. The swept-back headlamps with a black three slat chrome grille; strong front profile and sleek rear all come together to form a very practical car. With a wheel base of 2,360 mm, the Maruti Suzuki Ritz looks longer than it actually is. Although, it is 3,775 mm in length, 1,687 mm in width (with body cladding) and 1,620 mm in height depict that it is a compact car. Kerb weight of 1,030 kg for the Maruti Suzuki Ritz Petrol and 1,125 kg for the Maruti Suzuki Ritz diesel, it is comparable figure in its segment. The overall compact size makes it easy to drive around in the city.
The Maruti Suzuki Ritz has a spacious cabin that can seat four adults with easy. There is acceptable headroom and legroom with reasonable comfort for all occupants in the hatchback. The black and red interiors add to a bit of sportiness to the package and the dashboard mounted gear lever adds to the convenience. Due to the tall-boy design as the Maruti Suzuki Ritz is 1,620 mm, getting in and out of the car is easy and without any hassle. That said, boot space of 236 L can only accommodate two big suitcases at best.
The Maruti Suzuki Ritz is powered by two engine options namely a 1,197cc petrol and a 1,248 cc diesel engines. The petrol generates 86 hp power at 6,000 rpm and 114 Nm torque at 4,000 rpm and the diesel generates 74 hp at 4,000 rpm and 190 Nm at 2,000 rpm. Both engines are responsive and have acceptable NVH levels for its segment.
The Maruti Suzuki Ritz has three gearbox options – 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic gearbox options for the petrol motor and a 5-speed manual one for the diesel. The dashboard mounted gear lever not only makes slotting into a gear easy, the gearshifts are precise and crisp. The only gripe is the 4-speed automatic transmission that runs out of steam while exceeding 90 km/h. Clutch travel and pressure is really less from the manual transmission that makes the other two options as hassle-free as the automatic. The automatic transmission is available only in the VXi trim as VXi AT.
The Maruti Suzuki Ritz has dual front airbags in the top-end ZDi variant and option for ABS in VXi, which is standard in the VXi AT. The LXi, LDi and VDi variants miss out on Anti-locking Braking System.
The Maruti Suzuki Ritz has a certified mileage of 23.2 km/l for the diesel, 18.5 km/l for the petrol manual options and 17.16 km/l for the petrol automatic option. For its segment, the fuel efficiency figures are acceptable.
