i20 is one of the smartest looking hatchbacks in its segment. It gets a large grille at the front along with large, sweeping headlamp units on either side. These contain LED projector lamps and LED DRLs. The hatchback is based on Hyundai’s sensuous sporty design and gets a lot of sharp lines and creases all over. On the side, you will find 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels and a chrome beltline that look smart. The rear of the car comes with Z-shaped tail lamps, a chrome strip that runs across the boot and a sporty bumper.
The Hyundai i20 comes with a feature-loaded cabin. There is a fully digital TFT instrument cluster similar to the one found in the Verna. You get a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Android Auto & Apple CarPlay connectivity, cooled glovebox, wireless charger, electric sunroof, rear AC vents and blue ambient lighting among other things. There is an abundance of space inside the cabin for taller people as well. The steering wheel comes with tilt and telescopic adjustment and looks similar to the one found in Hyundai Creta.
Like many of their other offerings, Hyundai is offering many engine options with the new i20. There is a 1.2-litre NA, petrol engine that makes 81.8hp when paired with a manual and 86.7hp when paired with the IVT. Torque output remains the same at 114.7Nm. There is also a punchy 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that produces a peak power of 118hp and a peak torque of 171.6Nm. The third and final option is a 1.5-litre diesel engine that makes 98.6hp and a healthy 240Nm of torque. The company has made sure that there is an engine option for almost every kind of consumer.
Just like the engines, there are a few different gearbox options available in the i20. The 1.2-litre petrol motor is offered with either a 5-speed manual or an Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT). The turbo-petrol motor comes with a 7-speed DCT or a 7-speed Intelligent Manual Transmission (iMT). Lastly, the diesel engine is only being offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox.
The Hyundai i20 comes equipped with disc brakes in the front and drum brakes at the rear. Features like ABS, EBD, dual airbags and reverse parking sensors are standard across all variants. Higher-end models also get other safety features like 6 airbags, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), Vehicle Stability Management (VSM), Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and more.
According to the official fuel efficiency figures shared by Hyundai, the diesel models return the highest mileage of 25.2kmpl. The 1.2-litre N/A petrol model gives a mileage of 20.35kmpl when paired with the manual gearbox while the IVT variant gives 19.65kmpl. The turbo-petrol engine returns a mileage of 20kmpl when paired to the iMT and 20.25kmpl when paired to the DCT.
