With a starting price of just Rs 3.98 lakh (ex-showroom), the Datsun redi-GO is one of the most affordable cars in India. This entry-level hatchback has a tall look on the outside and gets a fairly basic interior. It comes with two engine and gearbox options across five variants. There is an 800cc petrol-powered version that produces 54hp and 72Nm of torque and comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. A more powerful 1.0-litre engine is also being offered by the Japanese carmaker and it makes 67hp and 91Nm. This engine can be had with either a 5-speed manual or an AMT. Despite being an entry-level product, the redi-GO does get attractive LED DRLs, chrome treatment on the grille, a reverse parking camera and a touchscreen infotainment unit.

The Datsun redi-GO is a simple yet smart looking hatchback and comes with a tall boy design. This means that while it is fairly compact in terms of length and width, it is decently tall. It rides on 14-inch wheels and has a ground clearance of 187mm. The front of the vehicle gets a large grille with chrome borders, neatly designed headlamps and large L-shaped DRLs. This definitely makes the red-GO grab a few eyeballs. Muscular lines running across the sides and at the rear keep the design language from feeling too plain.

On the inside, the Dastun redi-GO gets an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Also, it comes with a black & dual-tone interior and fabric upholstery. The instrument cluster gets a big analogue dial to display the current speed and a small digital display that shows some other information like the engine rpm, distance covered and more. Since the transmission tunnel is mostly flat, anyone sitting in the middle of the second row will not have a lot of problems placing their feet comfortably.

Datsun is offering the redi-GO with two petrol engine options. One of them is an 800cc, three-cylinder unit that makes a peak power of 54hp and 72Nm of torque. The second option is a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder engine that produces 67hp and 91Nm. Since this is not a performance-oriented vehicle, the power and torque outputs are just enough to ferry you and your companions around town.

  • Datsun redi-GO Transmission

Both the 800cc and 1.0-litre engines come with a 5-speed manual transmission that works well when driving around in the city. In the top-end T(O) variant, the redi-GO can be had with a 5-speed automated manual transmission (AMT) which the company calls Smart Drive Auto. People who travel during peak hours of traffic will appreciate the comfort provided by the two-pedal technology.

  • Datsun redi-GO Braking and Safety

The BS6 redi-GO comes with disc brakes in the front and drum brakes at the back. It also gets ABS with EBD, driver side airbag, seat belt reminder, and rear parking sensors as standard. The top-spec T(O) variant comes with additional features such as dual airbags and a reverse parking camera.

  • Datsun redi-GO Mileage

Since this is an entry-level hatchback, the engine has been tuned for prioritising fuel efficiency. Datsun claims that the 800cc engine can deliver a mileage of 20.71, the 1.0-litre engine with manual transmission can deliver 21.7kmpl and the 1.0-litre engine with AMT can give a mileage of 22kmpl. These mileage figures combined with the 28-litre fuel tank mean that the vehicle will have a range of over 500km once you fill it up.
