Yamaha R15 is one of the most popular entry-level sports motorcycles in India. The R15 is currently in its fourth-generation avatar in India. Yamaha R15 V4 was launched in India in September 2021 and it rivals the likes of the KTM RC 125, Bajaj Pulsar RS 200, etc. The new Yamaha R15 V4 gets a powerful 155cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected engine that develops 18.1hp of power and 14.2Nm of torque. Its engine is paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox. This fully-faired motorcycle gets a host of segment-first features, which include a traction control system, quick-shifter for clutchless up-shifts, and more. The Yamaha R15 V4 features an all-digital instrument cluster, inspired by the mighty Yamaha R1, that shows a ton of information. It even gets Bluetooth connectivity and two modes - Track and Street. The Yamaha R15, for the first time in India, now even gets USD front forks while at the rear, the R15 V4 features a mono-shock absorber.

    The Yamaha R15 has always been a good-looking motorcycle and in its fourth-gen avatar, it looks even better. This motorcycle now looks very aggressive, all thanks to the new R7-inspired front fascia. At the front, it gets a bi-functional LED projector headlamp that emits both high as well as low beams along with LED DRLs. The motorcycle has an aerodynamic profile and it gets a long visor along with chunky fairing. Yamaha R15 V4 gets split seats, a muscular fuel tank, and a LED taillamp at the rear.

    Being a fully-faired entry-level supersport motorcycle, the Yamaha R15 V4 offers a committed riding position to the rider. The motorcycle gets split seats, a wide, raised handlebar and its footpegs have been rear-set. Yamaha R15 V4's seat height is 815 mm and so it isn’t very suitable for short riders. However, with a kerb weight of just 142 kg, the R15 V4 is quite a lightweight motorcycle and thus it is quite flickable and offers great ride and handling.

    The new Yamaha R15 V4 gets the same engine as the R15 V3, however, with some minor tweaks. It is powered by a BS6 compliant 155cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected engine. This motor churns out 18.1hp of power at 10,000 RPM, which is 0.2hp less than the outgoing model. Also, it develops 14.2Nm of peak torque at 7500 RPM, which is 0.1Nm more than before, and that too at 1000 RPM earlier. The Yamaha R15 V4 offers great performance and it is one of the fastest bikes in its segment.

    The engine of the new Yamaha R15 V4 comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox and this is a very smooth gearbox. There is no false neutral while changing the gears and it upshifts as well as downshifts effortlessly in a smooth manner. What’s further interesting is that the new Yamaha R15 V4 even gets a quick-shifter for clutchless upshifts. The motorcycle also features Yamaha’s VVA or Variable Valve Actuation technology and an assist & slipper clutch.

    For braking duties, the new Yamaha R15 V4 gets disc brakes on either end. At the front, it gets a large 282 mm disc brake while at the rear, the bike gets a 220 mm disc unit. The Yamaha R15 V4 offers good braking performance and the bike comes to a halt in just no time. Moreover, the R15 V4 is also equipped with a standard dual-channel anti-lock braking system as an additional safety aid that further aids in its braking capabilities.

    The Yamaha R15 V4 gets an 11-litre fuel tank which is the same as its predecessor. Also, while the official mileage figures of the R15 V4 has not been yet revealed by the company, one can expect it to be as fuel-efficient as the R15 V3 as both the motorcycles have the same engine. The Yamaha R15 V4 might deliver around 40-48 kmpl of mileage, depending on the riding style and other factors.
