XL 100 moped is TVS’s one of the most reliable and long-lasting two-wheelers. Designed to serve the daily needs of a commoner like carrying the load on a day-to-day basis, the XL 100 excels as a reliable workhorse and provides unmatched levels of durability on any kind of road surface. Powered by a 4-stroke 100cc engine, the XL 100 produces 4.3 PS of power and 6.5 NM of torque. These numbers are enough to tackle the daily rigours of commuting with aplomb. And today, the XL 100 is not devoid of style as the bodywork is splashed with graphics on bright colours that hardly make it appear boring.

The design of a moped is quite typical with extremely thin dimensions, bicycle-like frame, a footboard to carry things and a rider seat. The engine is located below the footboard. The XL 100 is not any different, however, over the years the design has evolved a bit especially in the overall build and fit-n-finish department. The fuel tank is now a separate (than the frame itself) which is attached to the front part of the frame. There’s full functional suspension at both ends along with decent rider and pillion seats. The overall appearance is much more conventional thanks to the addition of bright colours and graphics here and there.
A Moped is designed to be used as a daily workhorse with good load carrying capacity and should be able to ride through different kinds of terrain without braking down. The XL 100 provides an upright riding stance so that the rider doesn’t feel fatigue in daily commuting especially when carrying the load. The handlebar reach is easy while the feet rest comfortably on the pegs. Suspension at both ends, though basic, is sturdy and produces a decently comfortable ride on almost all kinds of terrain.
XL 100 is powered by a 99.7cc single cylinder horizontal layout engine which is capable of producing 4.3 PS of power at 6,000 RPM and 6.5 NM of torque at 3,500 RPM. While these are small figures but they are enough to allow the XL 100 to carry the payload of up to 130 kg.
For complete ease of riding, the XL 100 comes with a gearless (or a single speed) transmission. There’s no clutch or manual gears, just start and ride.
Given the low power figures and the intent of use of the XL 100, it comes equipped with drum brakes at both ends that are adequate enough to provide good braking performance. The front is an 80mm while the rear is a bigger 110mm.
Company claimed fuel efficiency is 67 kmpl which is supposed to be the best in its class. With 4 litres of fuel tank capacity, the XL 100 should be able to return over 240 kms of range in one full tank.
