Modified Royal Enfield: This Classic 500 Bobber built by Chennai-based customiser hits all the right chords

  • Royal Enfield Classic 500 is in itself a timeless and very minimalistic design, but this bob job done by KR Customs from Chennai has defined further the idea of a proper Bobber. The attention to detail is so intricate and well carried out that Royal Enfield should consider putting something like this in production. (Source: Bikeexif)

  • KR Customs founder Krish Ranjan met Suresh and his father, who had 35 years of experience working around Royal Enfield motorcycles, in Chennai where Ranjan was relocated by the IT company he works with. While Krish holds his day job, he and the team have completed their fourth custom build.

  • The idea for the Classic 500 Bobber was zeroed in over a phone conversation with the client, Vikas, and they decided to transform it into a Bobber or Tracker. A donor bike was found within a matter of days. The first thing to do was to strip it down to the fram and engine.

  • KR Customs swapped the swing arm for a custom-built unit, made 4” longer to accommodate the new rear monoshock. The Classic 500's subframe was done away with and a solo seat was settled on a leaf spring mount. The leaf spring is a 1950s replica part, but the actual seat was built in-house.

  • The Classic 500’s original side boxes were removed as well, instead a single battery box was mounted which houses an Anti-Gravity Lithium-ion battery. The wheelset was changed to a 18” front and 16” rear, wrapping them in Firestone Deluxe Champions. The Classic 500 Bobber has a drum setup up front and a disc at the back.

  • For the tank, Krish and his team settled on a Triumph Street Twin and had to cut and shut the bottom of the tank to fit the Royal Enfield's original fuel pump. While the end result looks pretty darn gorgeous, the real deal is in, as Krish says, 'its sound and ride quality'. But that, we're afraid, can't be shown in the pictures.
