Ensuring the pilgrimage route to the Char Dharms and the pollution levels do not shoot up in the serene hills of Uttarakhand has announced that 38 electric vehicle charging stations will be set up within this year. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami explained that the objective is to ensure that the route to the Char Dham Yatra is taken in an environmentally friendly manner this year. He further explained that of the total 38 EV charging stations, 28 are being operated by the Uttarakhand Transport Department, while the remaining 10 will be managed by THDC (Tehri Hydro Development Corporation Limited).
Eco-friendly Pilgrimage
CM Dhami said that the state is focused on the Green Yatra theme this year, and the government has already installed the electric charging stations at 25 locations. The 25 EV stations are set up at the beginning of the Yatra. “In line with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, this year the target has been set to organise the Char Dham Yatra as a green journey,” said CM Dhami. He further explained that a total of 38 electric vehicle charging stations are being established along the Char Dham Yatra route. “As part of this initiative, 38 EV charging stations are being developed in collaboration with the Transport Department (28 stations) and THDC (10 stations),” he said.
Each station is equipped with universal chargers of 60 kW capacity, featuring two 30 kW charging guns. Most of the charging stations have been set up on properties owned by the Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam (GMVN).
GMVN Managing Director Vishal Mishra said, “E-charging stations have been established at key halts along the route to promote a Green Char Dham Yatra and encourage travellers to opt for electric vehicles.” In Rudraprayag district alone, charging stations have been installed at four GMVN guest houses managed by the tourism department.
The Char Dham Yatra is already underway and will continue until November, with the concluding date determined by prevailing weather conditions.
