2024 marked a significant milestone for the Indian automotive industry, with a host of brand-new electric vehicles launching across all segments, from affordable options to luxury models. Here, we focus exclusively on the fresh electric nameplates introduced this year, leaving aside facelifts and updated versions.
Tata Punch EV
Price: Rs 10 lakh to Rs 14.29 lakh
The Punch created sub compact SUV and ever since its debut, it has been a runaway success. To strengthen it position in the market, Tata Motors introduced the Punch EV based on a brand new Acti.EV platform. The Punch EV is available in two battery packs — the 25 kWh and the 35 kWh. The former produces 80.4 bhp and 114 Nm of torque and does 100 kmph from a standstill in 13.5 seconds. Tata Motors claims a driving range of 315 km. The top model’s 35 kWh churns out 120.6 bhp and 190 Nm and does 0 – 100 kmph in 9.5 seconds. Based on the company’s figures, it offers a range of 421 km.
JSW MG Windsor EV
Price: Rs 13.50 lakh to Rs 15.50 lakh
The Windsor EV is MG’s third electric vehicle, following the ZS EV and Comet EV. This crossover features a 38 kWh battery that delivers 134 bhp and 200 Nm of torque. MG claims the Windsor EV offers a range of 332 km. Equipped with all-disc brakes and a large 604-litre boot capacity.
Tata Curvv EV
Price: Rs 17.49 lakh to Rs 21.99 lakh
Tata Motors continues to lead the charge in affordable electric vehicles in India with the launch of the new Curvv EV, its fifth electric offering. The Curvv EV comes with two battery options: a 45 kWh and a 55 kWh. The 45 kWh variant delivers 147.5 bhp and 215 Nm of torque, accelerating from 0 to 100 kmph in 9 seconds. The 55 kWh version ups the performance with 165 bhp and 215 Nm, reaching 100 kmph in just 8.6 seconds. In terms of range, Tata Motors claims the 45 kWh version offers 502 km, while the 55 kWh variant goes up to 585 km on a full charge.
Mahindra BE 6
Price: Starting from Rs 18.90 lakh
The Mahindra BE 6, a sporty midsize electric SUV, may have faced some legal challenges, but it embodies the spirit of a sports car with the practicality of an SUV. It offers two battery options: a 59 kWh and a 79 kWh. The 59 kWh variant delivers 228 bhp and 380 Nm of torque, with an ARAI-claimed range of 556 km. The 79 kWh version ups the power to 281 bhp and 380 Nm, accelerating from 0 to 100 kmph in just 6.7 seconds, while offering a range of 682 km. The BE 6 also comes with three drive modes—Range, Everyday, and Race—as well as a Boost mode to unleash maximum torque for 10 seconds.
Mahindra XEV 9e
Price: Starting from Rs 21.90 lakh
Like its sibling the BE 6, the Mahindra EV flagship model comes in two battery packs — 59 kWh and 79 kWh. The 59 kWh churns out 228 bhp and 380 Nm and a claimed range of 542 km. The more powerful 79 kWh pumps out 281 bhp and 380 Nm with a claimed range of 656 km.
