You can soon connect your smartphone for Apple CarPlay wirelessly

The wireless CarPlay technology may also be seen in other car manufacturers such as Chrysler, Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Jeep and Toyota.

Apple CarPlay in infotainment systems is picking up in mass production cars at a brisk pace. Some affordable cars also come with this feature, however, a slight inconvenience in the current systems is that Apple CarPlay requires a smartphone to be connected with a cable. But, what if there was an option of using Apple CarPlay wirelessly? You heard this right! Global leader in car technology, Harman will introduce wireless integration for Apple CarPlay in the upcoming 2017 BMW 5 Series. This new technology will support smartphones which are running on iOS 9 operating system. The concept of the wireless CarPlay was first introduced in at the 2015 Worldwide Developer’s Conference (WWDC)

Haman’s wireless technology for Apple CarPlay will be compatible with iPhones and will connect via Bluetooth, data transferring via WiFi and it also integrates with the CarPlay Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs) for navigation on the sedan’s screen. In addition to the convenience of wireless connectivity with CarPlay support other functions such as calls, music playback and mobile office will also be available. With rise in demand of the Apple CarPlay, Apple will be bring improvements in CarPlay with its iOS 10.3 version.
In future, wireless CarPlay technology may also be seen in other car manufacturers such as Chrysler, Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Jeep and Toyota. Another infotainment manufacturer which is also offering wireless technology is Alpine with their new iLX-107 system. Although, this system is not factory-fitted and an aftermarket solution for customers.

Cars which offer Apple CarPlay in India right now are the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, S-Cross, Ciaz, Volkswagen Jetta, Passat, Polo and some others. Harman with Tata Motors is also providing infotainment systems are the Bolt, the Tiago, and Zest which is compatible with USB and AUX. It is expected that Harman will bring its wireless technology in in India by this year itself.
