Every time we hear of an Indian manufacturer or Indian car failing a crash test we sigh, grumble a bit about the way we don’t care about safety and then move on with our lives. The truth is it all seems a bit abstract thanks to a gruesome lack of perspective, it’s always about someone else. Reality hits home when it happens to one’s self and that can often be a little too little. Whenever dialogues in terms of safety are started we find more and more reasons as to why we need to be more aware of safety. We recently carried a story about a twitter campaign started by Ford India that found more than 70% of respondents who said that safety in cars does not feature on their ultimate buying decision. And no, it’s not just the uneducated masses.

Most of us are of the belief that airbags don’t really do anything, and that they are nothing more than marketing gimmicks. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Which is why we have put together this video, to help inculcate the gross realities involved in rolling collision. Even at speeds as low as 64 kmph, a collision can be absolutely devastating. The video is a compilation of high speed impacts from various cars including the Maruti Suzuki Swift,Mahindra Scorpio and Hyundai Eon. Not only does the video exemplify the importance of  airbags are but also how important it is to have a strong chassis.

Watch the video and find out how important it is to know how safe your car is, or how well it did in the crash test. Always opt for ABS and airbags and research well on how safe is the construction of your car. In case it’s a new model that has never been crash tested before, try finding what platform it is based on and check the crash rating s of those cars. Ultimately, choose the safest car possible within your budget even if it means compromising on some exterior and interior features.
