We've seen multiple R-Design models previously in Volvo's lineup in the country. Now, the Swedish auto manufacturer has imported the new Volvo XC90 R7 variants into India for homologation purpose, claims a report on team-bhp. The R-Design versions of earlier models have not been limited to cosmetic changes and have features key architectural changes such as different chassis in the S60 R-Design. According to the report, Volvo is planning to launch the new variant of the XC90 soon and, hence, it is testing the vehicle as per the Indian road conditions.
Reportedly, the car manufacturer has imported multiple units of the XC90 R7 for testing and homologation. It is powered by a 2.0L, 4-cylinder, diesel engine that produces 225hp of maximum power. The same engine also powers the current Volvo XC90 in the country, but in the R-Design variant, the motor might be fitted with a more powerful compressor for injecting air at a higher pressure. This could help improve low-end drivability without any significant changes to the power output. According to the images, the SUV has also got some cosmetic updates. On the outside, the XC90 R7 has received new air vents above the LED fog lamps. This can be due to the fact that these vents will allow better air intake, which will aid the engine efficiency of the vehicle.

The SUV has also received new body paint finished in high-gloss. The front grille has been revised, which now features a black finish. Instead of body coloured ORVMs, the carmaker has provided the outside mirrors with a silver finish similar to the S60 R-Design. The newly designed bumpers, 20-inch alloys and larger spoiler has also been added to the exterior updates.
No interior images have come up, but we expect the new Volvo XC90 R7 to come loaded with features such as sporty seats wrapped in high-quality leather with contrast stitching and R-Design badge, new interior theme and other driver friendly information and features.
