Volkswagen India is gearing up for the launch of the Tiguan, which is speculated to be in April 2017, followed by the launch of the new Passat by mid-2017. The new Volkswagen Tiguan has been spied testing earlier, which revealed the exterior of the car. The upcoming Tiguan will be based on the company’s popular MQB (Modularer Querbaukasten) platform. The platform will help the car to shed up to 50 kg over the current model sold internationally.
The exterior design would include a revised front grille with chrome accents, projector headlamps with LED Daytime Running Lamps, horizontally positioned LED fog lamps and a new aggressive front bumper. However a spy shot of the interior isn’t out yet, it is expected that Volkswagen may equip the Tiguan with an 8-inch touchscreen display with navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and MirrorLink. In addition to the infotainment system, the SUV will include automatic climate control, reverse parking sensors, keyless entry and push-button start/stop. Safety features will include ABS (Antilock Braking System) with EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution) and airbags as standard, while an emergency braking system, pedestrian monitoring system and automatic post-collision braking are likely to feature on higher trims.
The new Volkswagen Tiguan will be offered with a 2.0 litre TDI diesel engine that will generate 147 hp of power and 340 Nm of torque and will be paired to a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox. The company might also offer the SUV with a 2.0 litre TSI, 4-cylinder petrol engine in different states of tunes that will be mated to a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DSG unit. There should be an option of a 4MOTION all-wheel drive system as well.
