The all-new Volkswagen Polo GTI R5 has been recently revealed by the company's Motorsports team at a special event in Spain. The new Polo GTI R5 shares its underpinnings with the sixth generation Polo and will went through the homologation during the coming summer. Before you ask us what powers this fascinating hatchback, the Volskwagen Polo GTI R5 sources its power from a 1.8-litre, turbocharged, four-cylinder engine that has been assited with direct injection technology. The engine develops an impressive 268 hp of maximum power output along with 400 Nm of peak torque. A sequential, close stepped, five-speed gearbox is what transmits the power to the four-wheel drive set up. As per as performace figures go, the Volkswagen Polo GTI can go from a standstill to a 100 kmph mark in a matter of 4.1 seconds. When the car made its first public appearance, the race livery along with sporty alloy wheels and rally kit were admired by the audience.
The Volkswagen GTI R5 is in sync with the FIA regulations and hence, has been strengthened with a roll cage and gets a bunch of other safety components. The previous generation model of the Volkswagen Polo cliched four titles in the WRC between the years 2013 and 2016. While designing the new Volkswagen Polo GTI R5, the development team took inputs from Skoda as well.
Thr prices for the Volskwagen Polo GTI R5 will be out once the homologation is done. Expect the pricing to be slightly over 1.6 lakh Euros. For those of you who do not know, Volkswagen had decided to quit the WRC in the year 2016. The newly developed Volskwagen Polo GTI will be sold to the private that will compete in the WRC2 category. the car will also be sold to customers who want to participate in events like European rally car championship, International Touring car championship along with other motorsport events. The first lot of car will be delivered to the customers by the 2018 autumn.
