Volkswagen India will launch the Tayron R-Line in the coming weeks, setting the stage for a broader product push that includes a total of six new models through 2026.
The new model line-up spans facelifts, a new compact SUV, a performance model and a potential electric vehicle entry for India.
At the heart of the refresh are facelifts of the Taigun and Virtus, which are Volkswagen’s highest-selling models in India. The updates are expected to focus on design tweaks, interior and infotainment upgrades, and feature additions in order to keep both models relevant amid a highly competitive environment.
New Compact SUV
An all-new compact SUV expected to launch later this year will play a critical role in lowering the brand’s entry price and improving showroom footfalls, particularly as competition in the sub-4 metre SUV space accelerates.
This new SUV will be based on the Skoda Kaylaq and will take on the likes of the Tata Nexon, Maruti Brezza (also due for a facelift), Mahindra XUV300, Kia Sonet and the Hyundai Venue among others.
GTI Performance Halo
On the performance side, sources tell us that a second CBU lot of the GTI is incoming following strong demand for its initial batch. Volumes are expected to remain niche, but the GTI is positioned as a halo product to reinforce Volkswagen’s sporty brand DNA and enthusiast appeal in India.
Rounding out India launch pipeline is the likely introduction of the ID.4 electric SUV which would mark Volkswagen’s formal entry into the Indian EV market. The ID.4 is expected to be brought in as a CBU initially, enabling the company to test demand and gauge customer interest.
