The year 2017 has been a roller coaster ride for the automotive industry in India on multiple fronts including policy-making. From the progression to BS4 norm entirely to the fluctuations in vehicle prices due to GST, the Indian auto sector has seen a lot of action this year. In between all this, we have seen new models and facelifts from various companies. The most notable launches this year include 2017 Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Jeep Compass, Honda WR-V, Hyundai Verna and Skoda Octavia. In the last quarter of this year, automakers will add some more products to their lineup, especially due to the festival season, which pushes up demand for vehicles. Herein, we have compiled a list of the upcoming car launches in this year. One can expect some of these vehicles to launch within the next few days, while some might be launched towards the end of the year. After the launch of Skoda Octavia RS and Skoda Octavia Monte Carlo Edition, the company will launch its fourth model and the 7- seater SUV Kodiaq in India on 4th October. The Kodiaq is based on Volkswagen's MQB platform that also underpins the Superb and Octavia. At the time of launch, the company will introduce Skoda Kodiaq with a 2.0 litre diesel engine that delivers 147hp of power and 300 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 7-speed DSG gearbox. Skoda is expected to launch the Kodiaq in a price range of Rs 25 lakh to Rs 30 lakh,ex-showroom, Delhi and it will compete with the Ford Endeavour and Toyota Fortuner.
With growing popularity of the compact SUV segment in India, Renault will launch its much-awaited Captur next month. After the success of Captur in European and Brazil markets, the company plans to increase it sales in the Indian market. Based on the B0 platform, the Captur will be positioned above the Duster. The Captur is powered by a 1.5L H4K petrol and 1.5L K9K diesel engine. The petrol engine produces a power of 104 hp and 142 Nm of torque mated to 5-speed manual gearbox. The diesel motor churns out 108 hp and 240 Nm of torque with a 6-speed transmission. It is expected that the company might add an automatic transmission later. The Renault Captur is expected to be priced in a range Rs 10 lakh to Rs 15 lakh and it will compete with the likes of Hyundai Creta and Maruti Suzuki S-Cross.
2017 Ford EcoSport
Ford launched the Eco Sport in 2015, and now the company plans to introduce a facelift version of the Ford EcoSport. The company has already revealed the compact SUV for the European markets and will launch the car after the festive season in India. The Ford EcoSport will get a cosmetic makeover at the exterior and at the interior. The 2017 EcoSport will also get a fresh design for the headlamp cluster as well as larger fog lamp units compared to the existing model. Daytime Running Lamps will also be a part of the package, however, it is expected to be available on the higher trims of the vehicle only. The India-bound 2017 Ford EcoSport will retain the same engines powering the present model. It is expected that the company might introduce the 2017 Ford EcoSport with 1.5 litre Dragon series three-cylinder engine. Ford is expected to launch the 2017 EcoSport in a price range of Rs 7.10 lakh and Rs 10.38 lakh, ex-showroom. The 2017 Ford EcoSport will compete with the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon and Honda WR-V in the compact-SUV segment.
Volkswagen discontinued the Passat in 2013 in India, and now the company plans to introduce its eighth-generation Passat on 10th October 2017. The new Passat is based on the Volkswagen's MQB platform and will be powered by a 2.0 litre TDI engine. The engine produces 177hp of power and will be mated to a six-speed DSG transmission. The Passat will be offered in two trims- Comfortline and Highline and will get 9 airbags as standard. Volkswagen Passat will be launched in the price range of Rs 30 lakh to Rs 35 lakh. In addition, the company might introduce the hybrid version of Passat GTE, that was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo at a later stage.
Range Rover Velar
Range Rover unveiled its new offering Velar this year and plans to launch the SUV by this year-end. The new Land Rover Range Rover Velar will be positioned between the Range Rover Sport and Range Rover Evoque in the company's portfolio. The SUV will be powered by a 2.0 litre Ingenium four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine (D180) that produces 177 hp of power and 430 Nm of torque. The Velar will also get a 2.0 litre petrol engine that produces 246 hp of power and 365 Nm of torque. All engines are paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The SUV is expected to be priced between a range of Rs 80 lakh to Rs 1 crore, ex-showroom and will compete with the Audi Q7 and BMW X5.
