In December 2024, the Maruti Suzuki Brezza claimed the top spot, surpassing the Tata Punch by a margin of 2,263 units, with the Nexon securing the third position on the podium. Here’s a look at the top five compact SUVs for the month.
Maruti Suzuki Brezza
The Maruti Suzuki Brezza sold 17,336 units in December 2024, marking a significant year-on-year growth of 35 per cent. In December 2023, the company had sold 12,844 units of the Brezza. Compared to November 2024, when the compact SUV sold 14,918 units (an 11 per cent YoY increase), the December figures show a strong upward trend. This growth also contributed to the Brezza’s position as the fourth best-selling SUV in November 2024.
Tata Punch
The Tata Punch emerged as the bestselling vehicle of 2024, helping Tata Motors break Maruti Suzuki’s 40-year dominance. However, it couldn’t carry that success into December, where it ranked as the second-best-selling SUV and fifth in overall sales. In December 2024, the Punch sold 15,073 units, marking a 9 per cent increase compared to the same month in 2023.
Tata Nexon
The Tata Nexon secured third place with 13,536 units sold in December 2024, marking an 11 per cent decline compared to December 2023, when it sold 15,284 units. However, in November 2024, the Nexon saw a positive performance, selling 15,329 units, which represented a 3 per cent year-on-year growth. The Nexon stands out in the affordable segment as the only vehicle available in petrol, diesel, electric, and CNG variants.
Maruti Suzuki Fronx
Call it a crossover or a coupe SUV, the Maruti Suzuki Fronx has been a runaway success since its debut at the Auto Expo 2023. True to the saying, “What’s in a name?”, the Fronx has quickly become one of the top-selling SUVs in India. In December 2024, it sold 10,752 units, marking an 11% year-on-year growth compared to December 2023, when it sold 9,692 units. However, the Fronx did experience a significant month-on-month decline of 28 per cent, down from 14,882 units in November 2024.
Hyundai Venue
The Hyundai Venue secured fifth place with 10,265 units sold in December 2024, showing a slight 1 per cent decline compared to December 2023. However, compared to November 2024, the Venue saw a 5 per cent increase, up from 9,754 units.
