Tesla Motors, the silicon valley based electric car maker, that revealed the Tesla Model 3 prototype last week has received over 3.25 lakh bookings within a week's time. This is claimed to be the single-biggest one-week launch of any product ever, something that not even has been achieved by any non-EV vehicle. The total order are worth USD 14 billion.
The Tesla Model 3 will be the first product from the electric car giant that will be launched in several new markets including India. Other markets where the car will be launched are South Africa, New Zealand, Brazil, Singapore and Ireland. Expected to be priced around USD 35,000 (pre-taxes), the Model 3 will go into production in 2017.
The Tesla Model 3 derives its power from a 60kw hour lithium-ion battery back that offers a range of 300kms per charge. Interestingly, the vehicle can reach 97kmph mark from standstill in under 4 seconds. The Tesla Model 3 will be made available in both rear-wheel drive (RWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) systems.
Though the company hasn't revealed the exact launch details of the product, we expect it to come to India towards the end of 2017 or early 2018.
