Tata Motors will launch its much-awaited Tigor on 29th March 2017 and the bookings for the car have commenced according to a dealership. Potential customers can book the car at a token amount of Rs 10,000 and once introduced, the Tigor will replace Tata's entry level sedan, the Indigo CS. Upfront, Tigor gets its design bits from Tiago, however, unlike the hatchback, the sub-4 metre car is offered with a dual headlamp setup with projector beams. Unlike most sub-4 metre cars currently sold in India, the Tigor has a coupe-like rear design language which adds to a sporty and stylish character, according to Tata Motors.
The Tigor will get a 1.2 Revotron petrol unit which is expected to produce 85 hp of power and about 114 Nm of peak torque. The other option is 1.05 litre, three cylinders, Revotorq diesel unit that would develop 70 hp of power and 140 Nm of peak torque. Both the engines will be mated to 5-speed manual gearbox, however, an AMT or Automated Manual Transmission can also be expected. In the Tiago, the claimed fuel efficiency of the diesel variants is 25 kmpl which is expected to hover around the same mark for the Tigor.
In terms of dimensions, the Tigor measures 3,992 mm in length,1,677 mm in width, 1,537 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,450 mm. The car will features an infotainment system by Harman that will have USB, AUX, Radio playback as well as Bluetooth connectivity. Safety features on the Tigor will include dual front airbags and ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) with EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution).
Once introduce, the Tata Tigor will compete with the likes of the Maruti Suzuki DZire, Ford Aspire and the Hyundai Xcent in the compact sedan segment. Like the Tiago, the new offering from Tata is expected to be priced between Rs 5.5 lakh and Rs 8.5 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi.
