Tata Motors is planning to introduce two new SUVs that will compete with the Jeep Compass and Hyundai Creta, according to a report by Autocar. The company will bring the two new SUVs with five- to seven-seater configuration and is expected to launch by the next financial year 2018. The new SUVs will be based on the L550 platform and will carry a fresh design. It is expected that manufacturer might use the Multijet 2.0 litre petrol engine that will produce two states of tunes - 140 hp and 170 hp. Also, the two cars will be available in all-wheel-drive and two-wheel-drive. In addition, the company is planning to bring a new hatchback based on the AMP (Advanced Modular Platform) platform. The new hatchback is codenamed X451 that is expected to launch in 2019. The new hatchback on AMP platform will compete with Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Hyundai i20.
In order to boost its sales in passenger vehicles segment, Tata Motors is planning to invest over Rs 24 billion. The company will focus on reducing costs and increase the production of its products. The company has a 5.5 percent market share in passenger vehicle segment, however, they have struggled to increase its sales.
Until the new hatchback and the SUVs are launched in the market, Tata is all set to launch a compact crossover Nexon, which will come in both petrol and diesel variants. The diesel variants of the Nexon will come with the 1.5-litre common-rail turbocharged unit that produces 110 hp of power and 260 Nm of peak torque. The petrol variants get the Tata Tiago's 1.2-litre Revotron three-cylinder engine. Both engines are likely to get a 5-speed manual transmission and a 6-speed AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) gearbox.
