Suzuki Solio, a tallboy mini MPV based on the Suzuki Wagon R, has been spied for the second time in India. Seen testing on the roads of Gurugram in January, the latest spy image published by TeamBHP confirm that the Suzuki Solio is being tested in Delhi. While the previous spy images revealed the upright rear of the Suzuki Solio, the latest image show the sliding the rear doors and quarter glass. The test mule of the Suzuki Solio also appears to sport a spoiler on the roof and also a shark fin antenna.
Suzuki Solio has been on test in India for a long time now. It was spied testing around Maruti factory in Gurugram in 2014 as well. One would've expected it to showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo, but Suzuki chose not to. Now that it has resurfaced, speculations still continue as to whether or not Maruti Suzuki will bring it to India.
Suzuki Solio is a seven-seater, sub-4 metre mini MPV, which is offered with a hybrid powertrain in the Japanese market. It is powered by a 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine that produces 90 hp and 118 Nm of torque and a motor generator unit (MGU) in its home market. The engine is paired with a five-speed automated manual transmission (AMT).
The Solio has a longer wheelbase than the Wagon R, comes with sliding doors and a flexible seating layout. It is still unclear whether the Solio will make it to the Indian passenger car market. But, Maruti is working on replacing the current generation Wagon R with a new model, which could make its debut by the end of this year. We expect the Solio to be positioned above the new Wagon R and below the larger Maruti Suzuki Ertiga if it is launched in India, offering more space and practicality than the Wagon R but then being smaller than the Ertiga.
