Expected to be showcased at the upcoming Shanghai Motor Show next month, Skoda has released a teaser image of a concept called Vision E, which is likely to evolve into the Kodiaq coupe. The teaser shows a crossover, styled more like a coupe and carries the crystal glass art that the Czech brand has entrusted for years. The Vision E, like other Vision concepts, is expected to be put into production. The standard Skoda Kodiaq, which was spied testing in Pune earlier this month, is available in two-row, 5-seat and three-row, 7-seat versions. The Vision E or Kodiaq coupe, on the other hand, would come in a two-row, 5-seat version owing to its sloping roofline.
The teaser image reveals that Skoda have given the car sharper looking headlamps with powerful LEDs, and the styling of the tail lamps too is different from the regular 'C' shaped ones and are more angular.
Skoda had earlier planned the Kodiaq coupe only for the Chinese market and is expected to launch there by 2019, however the brand is now mulling bringing it to Europe.
There is so far no information on specifications, however the Kodiaq coupe is likely to come with engine options similar to the standard Kodiaq. The petrol variant of the Kodiaq that would come to India is likely to be powered by a 1.4-litre, 4-cylinder TSI engine that makes 152.8 hp, and the diesel variant would come with a 2.0-litre TDI engine with an output of 187.4 hp. Both the engines are likley to be available with dual-clutch automatic transmissions.
Along with the engines from the Skoda Kodiaq, Skoda may later introduce a plug-in hybrid powertrain in its cars.
