Skoda Karoq SUV made its international debut in May earlier this year and reports now suggest that the SUV is being considered for the Indian market. Ashutosh Dixit, director of sales, service and marketing, Skoda Auto India told Autocar India, "The Kodiaq will be the start of our new SUV strategy. Apart from that, we are exploring other options as well. Among the small SUVs, we currently have the Karoq in our global range and we are evaluating it for India". Skoda India has not announced the launch date of the Karoq in India, but we expect the carmaker to debut the compact SUV at the 2018 Auto Expo if at all it decides to participate in the major auto fest. The company is currently busy bringing its three new models namely; the Rapid Monte Carlo, Octavia RS and the Kodiaq SUV in India and we expect the Karoq SUV to be launched in 2018. The upcoming Karoq will replace the Yeti's space and will be positioned below Skoda Kodiaq.
Globally, Skoda Karoq is built on the Volkswagen’s MQB platform (Modular Transverse Matrix platform) that also underpins other popular Audi, Skoda and Volkswagen models across the world. The compact SUV is 4,382 mm in length, 1,841 mm in width, 1,603 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,638 mm. The SUV also has a luggage compartment with a volume of 521 litres and with the rear seats folded down, the boot space increases to 1,630 litres.
Skoda Karoq is offered in five different engine options ranging from 113 hp to 188 hp. The SUV gets features like start -stop technology with regenerative braking. The engines are either mated to a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox.
If Skoda decides to bring Karoq to India then it might be built at the VW Group’s assembly plant in Aurangabad were also the Volkswagen Tiguan is assembled. It will share its parts and components with the Tiguan SUV. It will boast features like driver-assist aids, LED headlamps and digital instrument panel. The higher variants of the Karoq will get Volkswagen Group’s Modular Infotainment Matrix systems with a touchscreen display.
