Renault India has confirmed to launch a new version of Kwid with a 1.0 L petrol engine in the month of August. The present Kwid comes with a 800 cc engine and the company had confirmed the 1.0 L engine earlier at the 2016 Auto Expo in February. With the addition of the 1.0 L Kwid, Renault India is looking at expanding its market share to 5 % by the end of this year, claimed a PTI report. The Kwid in its present form has been widely accepted by the consumers and has already found more than 75,000 buyers since its launch in September, 2015.
The present 800 cc engine delivers about 52 hp along with a fuel-efficiency of close to 25 km/l. Although official figures aren't out, we expect the 1.0 L engine to develop around 65 hp and deliver almost similar fuel-efficiency as the 800 cc engine. The 1.0 L engine is also expected to be paired to an AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) unit. The new version of the Kwid will directly compete with the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10, which is offered with a 1.0 L engine along with an 800 cc engine.
Renault has not yet made any price announcements but the 800 cc Kwid is priced between Rs 2.6 and 3.7 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi. The 1.0 L Kwid's direct competitor Alto K10 is priced between Rs 3.25 and 4.2 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi. Based on these numbers, we expect Renault to price the Kwid 1.0 L between Rs 3.4 lakh to Rs 4.5 lakh, ex-showroom.
