MG Motor's debut car is set to launch in India this year, and while we've some of it through teaser images, we now have the first clear photos of the India-spec MG Hector SUV. The pictures were published by eurocarspotter/Instagram and reports suggested that the pictures were taken during the filming of its television commercial with British actor Benedict Cumberbatch behind the wheel. Announced in January, the name of the SUV takes after the British biplane from the Wolrd War era and Prince Hector of the Greek mythology. MG's new SUV will be launched in the country by mid of this year. MG Hector is expected to be priced at Rs 15 lakh for the base trim and it will also be India's first connected passenger vehicle.
MG Hector will compete with the likes of Tata Harrier and Jeep Compass when launched in India by mid of this year. In terms of size, the Hector will boast of large dimensions and will be bigger than the current-generation Honda CR-V.
MG Motor released a teaser video of the Hector last month which feature the top section of the SUV which confirms that it will get a sunroof, sharkfin antenna, and a roof-mounted spoiler. Besides these, the Hector will get LED tail lamps, LED DRLs and up front, the design includes a honeycomb grille.
The upcoming MG Hector SUV for India will come with both petrol and diesel engine options. The 2.0-litre diesel engine will be the same unit that powers the Jeep Compass with a power output of 170 bhp. On the other hand, there will be a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine on offer with an output of 150 bhp. The SUV will be offered with a manual transmission for both petrol and diesel engine options, and the petrol will get an optional six-speed DCT (Dual Clutch Transmission) as well.
MG Motor India announced in January that it has roped in tech major Adobe to provide end-to-end digital solutions platform in India ahead of the launch of its SUV MG Hector. As part of its digital transformation strategy, the company said Adobe will help MG India build and consolidate a common platform, including its brand website, dealer websites, and digital screens.
