Mercedes-Benz India that launched the Maybach S600 Guard earlier this month, today rolled out yet another variant of the S-Class - S400 - at a price of Rs 1.31 crore (ex-showroom, Hyderabad). The company launched 15 years in the last calendar year, and plans to roll out 12 this year. With the introduction of the S400, the company has already rolled out 5 new products in the first 3 months of the ongoing year.
Though the company already sells the S500, a variant equipped a 4.6-litre V8 petrol engine, the smaller S400 will target buyers looking for an affordable petrol variant albeit with almost same level of comfort.
What makes the S400 a more affordable variant is the smaller engine. This one features a 3.0-litre V6 petrol mill that is good for 324bhp and 480Nm. The smaller engine also makes it a more frugal than the S500. The Mercedes S500 offers almost all the features that one gets in the S350 d such as chauffeur package, air balance package, hot stone massage functions on all seats, safety package, etc. Similar to the S350 d, the S400 is also offered with customisation options that allows its buyers to hand-pick everything they want in the cabin including the material and equipment.
With the S400, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class lineup now has a total of 9 variants including two Maybach models and two S-Guard variants.
Roland Folger, Managing Director & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India said, “Mercedes-Benz believes in introducing the latest products and variants in the market at regular intervals, to keep customer interest and curiosity intact in the brand. This strategy we firmly believe has contributed to our unmatched success in India. With the launch of the S 400, we further extend the S-Class model range and also bolster our strong presence in the prestigious S-Class segment. The S 400 symbolizes benchmark craftsmanship, affluence and grandeur. No other car stands for the Mercedes-Benz brand promise more than the S-Class”.
Folger further added, “The S-Class has always set standards that have retained its accolade as "the best automobile in the world" with each generation. We are excited to introduce the 9th variant of our flagship model for them. The S 400 will be locally manufactured in our world-class production facility in Chakan, Pune. This is yet another firm affirmation of our vision of ‘make in India’, and our unwavering commitment to the Indian customer in presenting the best of our global offerings.”
