It’s no secret that with the influx of the more connected applets in terms of infotainment systems, Maruti albeit briefly found themselves on the backfoot betting high on the whole Mirror link multi platform user system on most of their cars. Now while Mirror link actually just casts your devices display on the infotainment system, it’s not really optimized for your vehicle screen and not great to use while driving. This has been where manufacturers have capitalized providing their cars with the more phone specific Android Auto and Apple CarPlay both of which optimize the output for in-car use. They are a lot easier to use, and make for a more connected driving experience without really having to reach for your phone. Now ofcourse Maruti has announced that their entire range will be able to upgrade there existing touchscreen Smartplay infotainment systems  enabled Maruti car to support all three.

Maruti Suzuki has started rolling out the Android Auto update for select car models. The cars that have received the latest update include the touchscreen-equipped models of Baleno, Ertiga, S-Cross, Ciaz and Vitara Brezza. In order to get the update for the said infotainment system, the customer has to take his car to an authorized Maruti Suzuki service center. Maruti Suzuki has already sent a circular to its service outlets giving instructions and details about the new update. The document also states that specific VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) series for the car variants that are eligible for the new Android Auto update. Furthermore, the circular states that only the models manufactured after a particular date will be able to receive the update.

Besides all this information, a few precautions have also been listed in the circular that need to be kept in mind while updating the software. Just in case, if a customer wishes to get the software update done on their own, the setup files are now available on the internet.  Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are connectivity options for the two largest mobile platforms. Since the majority of buyers either have Android or Apple smartphones, car manufacturers have started offering the two options in their new models in order to step up the convenience factor.

In other news, the bookings for the supremely awaited 2018 Maruti Swift will begin in India in January 2018. The hatchback will be launched at the Auto Expo 2018 and it is one of the most anticipated cars to be showcased at the biennial event. While many reports on the internet say that the new 2018 Maruti Swift will be launched in India in January, it does not makes much sense to us as Maruti has always been known for its impressive style of showcasing at Auto Expos and hence, it would definitely prefer to launch its highly awaited car in style. Besides the new Maruti Swift, the country's largest car maker is also expected to showcase the Swift Sport and Swift Hybrid at Auto Expo 2018 but these variants will not be launched in India anytime soon.
