Maruti Suzuki Ignis was first showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo and now the manufacturer is set to launch the Ignis on 13th January 2017. The tall-boy design will be sold through the Nexa dealerships and will compete with Mahindra KUV100 in its segment. The Ignis was expected to launch at the festive season but the waiting period of the Vitara Brezza and Baleno delayed the launch of the compact car. We give you the specification comparison of Ignis and Mahindra KUV100.
Maruti Suzuki Ignis’ design is based on the tall-boy crossover similar to the WagonR’s silhouette. That said, there is a lot of difference between the two. The Ignis features a U-shaped LED projector headlamp with LED DRLs (Daytime Running Lamps) at the front and plastic cladding on the rear bumper with clear lens tail lamps. Along with this, the car gets full wheel covers on the lower trims and alloy wheels on the top-end trim.
On the other hand, Mahindra launched the compact SUV KUV100 this year, which is built on the monocoque chassis like its elder sibling XUV500. The KUV100 get features such as follow me headlamps, LED DRLs (Daytime Running Lamps) and plastic black cladding with fog lamps at the front. Additionally, it features electrically adjustable ORVMs (Outside Rear View Mirrors) and 6-spoke alloy wheels.
The compact crossover from Maruti Suzuki, Ignis will be powered by a company’s existing 1.2 litre K-series petrol engine and 1.3 litre DDiS diesel engine, which are also used in the Swift and Baleno. Both engines will have the option of an AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) gearbox along with a 5-speed manual transmission. The company opted for an AMT instead of a CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) to keep costs in check. Since the Ignis will be based on the Suzuki’s fifth generation platform that underpins the Baleno which has an ARAI certified fuel economy of 21.4 kmpl for the petrol and 27.9 kmpl for the diesel versions, these figures will be marginally better for the Ignis due to lesser weight than the Baleno.
The Mahindra KUV100 is powered by a petrol mFalcon G80 engine and mFalcon D75 diesel engine . The 1.2 litre mFalcon G80 engine delivers 82 hp of power and 114 Nm of torque which is mated to 5-speed manual transmission. Along with this, the 1.2 litre mFalcon D75 turbocharged CRDi engine with BS4 compliant engine which churns out 77 hp of power and 190 Nm of torque that is paired to a 5-speed manual transmission. Currently, there is no option of an automatic transmission.
Maruti Suzuki will launch the Ignis with features such as a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, USB, and AUX. In addition, the Ignis will also be offered with automatic climate control and reverse parking sensors with camera. In terms of safety, it will be equipped with ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) with EBD (Electronic Brake force Distribution) and dual-front airbags as standard.
Similarly, the Mahindra KUV100 is available with features such as all power windows, cooled glove box, sun glass holder, infotainment system with 4 speakers and two power modes- Eco and Power. Safety package includes ABS with EBD as a standard feature, however, airbags are optional extra on every version. The KUV100 is offered in 5 and 6 seater variants.
Price tag of the Maruti Suzuki Ignis is expected to be from Rs 5.5 lakh to Rs 7.5 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi which would be announced on 13th January 2016.
The KUV100 is available in 4 trims- K2, K4, K6 and K8 are without airbags, while K2 plus, K4 plus and K6 Plus variants are with airbags. It has a starting price of Rs 4.50 lakh and goes up to Rs 6.80 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi.
